What’s in a Tomato at Paradise Hill Farm?

Here is what’s in a vine-ripened tomato about 2.5 inches in diameter. Besides minerals like calcium, potassium, magnesium and others, it has:

Calories 25
Fiber 2 grams
Fat 0.2 grams
Vitamin A 25% RDA
Vitamin C 47% RDA
Folacin 13% RDA
Niacin 5% RDA
Riboflavin 3.5% RDA
Thiamin 6.3% RDA

Tomatoes are one of the richest sources of lycopene. This antioxidant helps to prevent and repair damaged cells.

Men who eat at least 10 servings of tomatoes per week, in any form, can reduce their risk of prostate cancer by up to 34%. If you think 10 servings is a lot, think of all the ways tomatoes can be enjoyed: fresh, in salads, soups, juices, stew, sauces, salsas, fried, pickled, baked, sliced for burgers and of course – ketchup!

Don’t store tomatoes in the refrigerator – they lose their flavor and texture. Try using your Paradise Hill Farm tomatoes as a centerpiece for your kitchen table.

News

Our farm was hit very hard by the grass fire on January 4, 2012 but have started the rebuilding process. Our greenhouses are still standing, but require repairs which are going to put our tomato crop behind. We hope to have the weather cooperate so that the work can be done safely and quickly. We anticipate to have our tomatoes back into Calgary Co-op stores by June. Thanks for your support and understanding. We will update the website as we know more.
